Hey there, we got through it. Although there were a few technical difficulties, I think it will be well worth it when this song is released. I ended up hoarse for two days from having to record all takes a second time around. I’m used to being hoarse from my Halloween Horror Night acting days at Universal; screaming and growling like a banshee at you guys from out of the darkness.
Not much to say this time around but I did want to share a couple of photos of this record session. I wrote this song about some special people in my life as I was growing up. It is a tribute to them and I had them in the studio with me (you’ll notice in the photos) on the music stand. Their spirits helped make the session fun overall. I will share more with you in an upcoming interview or right here on JyRoBlogs.wordpress.com
(if I may use the title of one of Dolly Parton’s very early compositions). Tomorrow (October 24, 2014), is another big and exciting day for me. Reason being is that I’m returning to the the recording studio to record song #2 for the upcoming album. Wow, over a month has passed already since I was in the dungeon on my birthday recording the first single:-)
A little about what I’m recording tomorrow: This song is no different from the first I recorded a month ago in terms of my feelings about it. I simply love it and many of you will also. Here’s why: It’s down right fun, danceable, a definite candidate for a ‘club remix‘…(HELLOOOOOO – listen up all my DJ buddies worldwide:-) and it is telling a story about the folks who raised me to the age of thirteen years and what my childhood was like, growing up in the small town of Taylor, Texas. I wrote this song as a tribute to certain people whom I’ll identify in a future blog. I think that this track will be well accepted by them. Unable to release the track’s title to all you Jimikins just yet, please note that there are definite hints throughout this blog of how you will recognize the songs’ title when it is posted online and distributed worldwide via iTunes. Amen and stay tuned:-)!
Well, it’s here, my own lil’ blog. To those of you who are wondering what’s the definition of a Jimikins, allow me to explain. Jimikins, is the term of endearment that I’ve given to my fans. As Tamar has her Tamartians and Gaga, her Monsters, Jimikins allows me to feel closer to those (like you) who appreciate what I do and…I thank you! You are all so awesome. This will be a place where you can share your thoughts, meet others with aspirations similar to yours and keep up with what’s happening in my little world.
Speaking of interesting things to come: My new single is a R&B/Jazz love ballad and is scheduled to be released on Friday, February 13, 2015. Being my own worse critic, I must say that I am very excited about this track. It’s way too soon for me to say too much about it but I can tell you that there are two versions of the song; a radio edit and there’s the extended mix. Both of these mixes are hotter than the month of July. Produced by Addis Richard (aka Siraddis of Garland, Tx) and co-produced by yours truly, the song only took me about two days (if that) to write. I went into the studio on September 13 ’14 (the day before my birthday) and had a blast. I also recorded the background vocal parts myself, which can be not such an easy task. My younger brother Eddie ‘Boddie’ Story, has been a big help with the production of this new project. He was responsible in helpng me bring the song that made the Huffington Post’s list of Top 34 Songs of 2013 to you, ‘Partners For Life’ (aka ‘I Want To Be Loved By You’).
You may have heard that an album is to follow this single and yes, a CD is in the making. I have been keeping busy writing new material (keeping my Jimikins in mind as I write). I feel strongly that you will all enjoy what I have planned for you. As time draws closer towards the release of both the single and album, I will share more with you.
